How do I care for and maintain my wool art?
Wool is known for its strength and longevity. With a little routine maintenance to keep your art clean, your piece will too stand the test of time. Here are some basic care recommendations:
-Wool loves the sun. I recommend routinely leaving your wool art outside for a day to refresh. Your piece should also be routinely shaken out outside. Both framed and unframed pieces can be vacuumed on the lowest (drapery) setting to avoid pulling out the “raw wool” pieces.
-As with any natural fiber that comes from an animal, there is always a risk of attracting closet moths. As routine maintenance, it is recommended that you apply a cedar oil and/or lavender oil (mixed with water) directly onto your art.
Workshop FAQs
How does your wet felt instruction differ from others?
I have found that most wool felting instruction available is geared toward the making of crafts or wearable items. My courses and workshops teach basic wool felt principles and specific techniques that I’ve adapted to create art. These instructions are catered to those who want to explore wool as a visual art medium.
How long will the video tutorial class take?
The combined time for all of the chapters is about 40 minutes. The tutorial was designed for you to go at your own pace. It’s divided into 7 video chapters, so you can stop and start at any time. Your working time will of course depend on the size and design of your piece. 3 hours of working time in addition to the time it takes to watch the tutorial should be ample time.
Where do I source wool from?
I urge anyone using fiber to vet their prospective sources to ensure they have holistic farming practices in place.

If you have raw wool that needs to be processed into roving, here are two Montana wool mills that can assist you:

How much wool do I need?
Wool roving (washed and combed wool) is typically sold by the ounce. Raw wool (shorn straight from the animal) can be sold by the ounce or by an entire fleece. A small work (approximately 2 x 2 feet) would take about 3 ounces of wool roving.
Do I use hot or cold water for felting?
Either hot or cold water will felt wool. I’ve found the warm or hot water will felt more quickly. In my own process, I enjoy using warmer water in the winter months and cooler water/room temperature water in the summer months.
Can I get a refund?
We are not offering refunds on the Felting Community space because once you see & have this pre-recorded and printed information, it cannot be undone.
Workshop Registration, Refunds, Cancellations
Filled on a first come, first served basis
Registration must be done online
Payment is due in-full at the time of registration
Individuals who ask for a refund must do so 10 days prior to the start of the workshop to receive a 100% refund, if you register less than 10 days prior to the workshop start date your signup is non-refundable.
100% refunds will also be made if the participant cancels prior to the 10-day cancellation deadline.
Refunds will NOT be made in the event a participant misses a class or it is passed the 10-day cancellation deadline.
All refunds will be returned via the original payment method. Please allow 2 weeks for processing.
From time to time, it happens that an instructor may fall ill or have a family emergency to attend to, making it necessary to reschedule a workshop. If this occurs, we will arrange for a make-up session.
No refunds will be given if a make-up session is offered and the participant is not able to attend.
Can I share the class or video content with my friend?
Absolutely not. When purchasing your seat in class you are buying the class for you and you only. It is illegal to share this content.
With the live workshop, will I be able to ask questions or interact with other students in the class?
Yes! We encourage you to use the comment section below the video as a “public” forum to ask questions. I will be looking at it as often as possible and will answer questions there. We also want you to feel free to interact with one another in the comment section. Having a community and support system can be really valuable.
